Representative Greg Smith (R-Heppner) earned a 95% score on the Associated Oregon Industries' recently released 2009 voting scorecard. Based on key votes from the 2009 legislative session, AOI's biennial scorecard measures each legislator's performance on issues important to Oregon businesses and job creation.

The AOI scorecard tracked legislators' votes on many of the session's most important bills. Rep. Smith joined AOI in supporting the Jobs and Transportation Act and expanding the inclusion of biomass into the state's renewable portfolio standard. He also joined the group in opposing legislation they considered to be detrimental to businesses, including the corporate tax increase and the new tax on commercial health insurance premiums.

Representative Greg Smith is recognized as a leader with resolve who will cross party lines when it is for the benefit of District 57. In 2009, he showed independence and leadership by supporting legislation critical to minimizing cuts to public schools.
He has been a consistent supporter for increasing school funding, and a champion for ensuring fair funding for small, rural high schools. Rep. Smith sits on the Ways & Means Education Subcommittee.
Representative Greg Smith has been recognized as an "Education Champion" by Stand for Children and as an "Educational Leader" by the Oregon Education Association.
In the 2009 Legislative Session, Representative Smith voted against more than $858,464,275 in new taxes. These included a major tax on those who use rural hospitals, a tax on hunting and fishing licenses, a tax on logging equipment and the corporate tax.
